sukashibori ranma 透彫欄間

Also called sukashi-ita ranma 透板欄間, sukashi ranma 透欄間, itabori ranma 板彫欄間 and sukashikumi ranma 透組欄間. A transom with an openwork panel of cypress, paulownia or cedar, about 12 mm thick, that fills the transom frame. There are innumerable designs including bamboo, flower or fruit-laden branches, stylized patterns of pine trees, streams with irises, butterflies alighting on delicate reeds, cranes, fish and abstract designs.
