Tea Houses
1 A term referring to the arrangement of the utensils employed during a tea ceremony. Specifically, sumichigai means utensils that are set out on the diagonal as opposed to an arrangement based on imaginary lines intersecting at 90 degree angles. It is thought that Kobori Enshū 小堀遠州 (1579-1647) was particularly fond of this arrangement.
2 Buildings or streets which are placed on a diagonal axis in contrast to a grid pattern.
