Storehouses

A plaster coating on a storehouse wall about 4.5 mm thick. Traditionally the mixture by volume was 10 parts of sand, 15 parts of water and 0.15 parts of devil's tongue powder, konnyakuko 蒟蒻粉, a potato-like root made into a paste from the starch of this plant. A larger amount of sand was added to the mixture for storehouses than for the mixture prepared for coating the exterior of dwellings, because thicker walls were needed to protect the contents from dampness.
