The boards placed over rafters *taruki 垂木, to form the underside of a roof and at the same time serve as an open or exposed ceiling *keshō yaneura 化粧屋根裏. These boards are laid at a right angle to the ridge and extend to the eave ends. If the boards are laid parallel to the ridge, they are called yokoura-ita 横裏板.
