Lit. "candlestick stone." One of the *yaku-ishi 役石 of the *tsukubai 蹲踞 set of stones in a tea garden *roji 露地. Placed to the user's left of the water basin *chōzubachi 手水鉢, it is flat like the opposing *yuoke-ishi 湯桶石 but is usually somewhat lower. Teshoku-ishi are used during a nocturnal tea gathering when a candle or lantern is placed on it to help light the tsukubai.
