Also ji-ita 地板. The floorboards laid in an alcove *tokonoma 床の間. The most commonly used wood is zelkova, or red or black pine. The floor boards are connected to slender wooden strips called *zōkinzuri 雑巾摺 that are attached to the main support posts and to the walls on three sides. The alcove frame and the alcove floor are connected by dovetail tenons *aritsugi 蟻継.
