Straight lines, called projection lines, are drawn joining various points on a 3-dimensional object to a flat surface, called the projection face. The points on the projection face figure are connected up to make a figure, called a projection drawing. When the projection lines are parallel, the drawing is called a parallel projection drawing heikō tōei-zu 平行投影図. When the projection lines are generated from one point or converge into one point, the drawing is called a perspective projection drawing tōshi tōei-zu 透視投影図.
