A ceiling with a clay or mud plaster coating. Used in tea ceremony house *chashitsu 茶室 architecture. Examples: a ceiling four mats in size at Miharashidai 見晴台 in Shōnantei 湘南亭 at Saihōji 西芳寺, Kyoto. Tradition has it that Hon'ami Koetsu 本阿弥光悦 (1558-1637) used this type of ceiling over the mat interior of the Daikoan 大虚庵 tea cottage built in Takagamine 鷹ヶ峰, Kyoto.
