1 An alternative term for the base ridge *jimune 地棟. The base ridge is a longitudinal timber plate positioned below the ridge purlin *munagi 棟木, that provides a footing upon which to stand a row of struts *udatsu 卯立 or *shinzuka 真束, which in turn support the ridge purlin in thatched vernacular houses *minka 民家.

2 In minka with hipped roofs *yosemune yane 寄棟屋根 in Chiba Prefecture, the short beams that span from the eaves purlin *gagyō 丸桁 at the end of the roof to the main transverse beam *koyabari 小屋梁. These beams run parallel to the ridge and form a base for roof struts koyazuka 小屋束, to support other beams. Also called *tobibari 飛梁.
