Same as tsunagijiro or tsunagishiro 繋城.
1 A type of branch castle *shijō 支城 or fortification. A small-scale fortification constructed at a strategic position in between two major castles or fortifications in order to maintain communications between them. Used by troops moving from one location to the other. Where the two castles were very far apart, or the terrain was difficult, several tsunagi-no-shiro were constructed. The most important of these was called tsunagi-no-nejiro 繋の根城.
2 The innermost ward *honmaru 本丸 of a castle, as opposed to the secondary ward *ni-no-maru 二の丸 and tertiary ward san-no-maru 三の丸.
