General Terms

The exterior face of a stone rampart or a stone fence. In cases where both the front and back surfaces of a stone or wall can be seen, the back surface is called *urazumi 裏積. When walls are made of hardpacked mud mounds covered with stones, the first layer of stones is also called urazumi. A thick layer of rubble follows and the visible, exterior stones, tsura-ishi or omotezumi 表積, are then piled on top.
