Roofing Tiles
Also called *fusumagawara 伏間瓦. Lit. "dike tile." A slightly curved, rectangular tile which has an incised line, suji 筋, on the upper side stretching from end to end to help divide it in half when only half is needed. The name appears to be derived from the fact that such tiles are lined up along the bases of the ridges to form a dike-like barrier on either side to prevent melting snow or rain water from seeping under the ridge tiles.
