Inner tea garden. The part of the double tea garden nijū roji 二重露地, between the middle gate *chūmon 中門 and *chashitsu 茶室. It is contrasted with the outer tea garden *sotoroji 外露地.
The uchiroji typically contains a low water basin set *tsukubai 蹲踞, lantern *tōrō 灯籠, and waiting shelter *koshikake machiai 腰掛待合. The planting and arrangement of the uchiroji is generally more simple and elegant than that of the sotoroji.
