Visible eaves filler placed the eave support *kayaoi 茅負, and projected slightly beyond it. There are two basic types: koguchi uragō 木口裏甲, also called kiri-uragō 切裏甲, made of a series of cut boards placed cut-end out; and nuno-uragō 布裏甲, made from a long uncut piece of timber. Nuno-uragō are used especially along the bargeboards *hafu 破風, and are attached with nails to the eave supports. The use of an eaves filler dates from about the end of the 10th century. The advantage of its use lies in the eaves support from rain damage.
