A rear wing which extends from the main structure of a folk dwelling *minka 民家 in the Izumo 出雲 area of Shimane Prefecture during the Edo period. Originally a grain storage area called ushiroya 後屋, *chūmon 中門 or nezumi-irazu 鼠入らず (lit. "to eradicate rodents"), the extended wing came to be used for sleeping and/or clothes storage.
