A copy or a facsimile. The term refers not only to copies of calligraphy or painting, but also reproductions of ceramics. In tea utensils, there are many domestic replicas of popular and rare foreign goods such as Kōrai utsushi 高麗写し (Goryeo teabowls), Oranda utsushi オランダ写し (Dutch ware), and Kōchi utsushi 交趾写し (Tonkinese wares). From the late Edo period, the word was also used in regard to style, for instance to denote Ninsei utsushi 仁清写し (Ninsei style), or Kenzan utsushi 乾山写し (Kenzan style) wares.
