Joints
Also pronounced uwagi.
1 The uppermost timber of two joined structural elements. Often referred to as the male timber.
2 In landscape gardening, instead of uwagi, the characters are read jōboku. The term refers to one main tree or a main group of trees. Their branches are high and foliage is dense to form a backdrop for other garden scenery. The middle part of this group is called nakagi 中木, and the low shrubbery in front is called *shitaki 下木.
