Also called tori-no-shita 鳥の舌 (lit. "bird's tongue"). A somewhat triangular piece of wood added to a bracket arm *hijiki 肘木 to support a tail rafter *odaruki 尾垂木. The tail rafter is carved with a graceful, curvilinear design *eyō 絵様 to resemble the bracket arms on some nosings *kibana 木鼻. This arrangement appeared in the 14th century.
