Short for warabidegata suihotsu 蕨手形垂髪. Strands of hair *suihotsu 垂髪, which hang down both shoulders. The strands are of various lengths, symmetrical on both sides, and curl up at the tips. This style was used (4th-6th century) on Bodhisattva images in Northern Wei period in China, and on *bosatsu 菩薩 and *ten 天 images created in the Asuka period in Japan. Good examples include the Miroku Bosatsu zō 弥勒菩薩像 in Chūgūji 中宮寺, and the Kannon Bosastu zō 観音菩薩像 (see *Guze Kannon 救世観音) in Hōryūji *Yumedono 法隆寺夢殿, Nara.
