Also bakemono-e 化物絵 and yūrei-e 幽霊絵. *Ukiyo-e 浮世絵 prints that depict monsters, ghosts, and goblins. Ghosts which originate in *kabuki 歌舞伎 plays overlap into the category of actor prints *yakusha-e 役者絵. One of the oldest extant examples of yōkai-e in Japan is the 16th-century "Night Parade of One Hundred Demons," Hyakki yagyō 百鬼夜行 handscroll, Daitokuji Shinjuan 大徳寺真珠庵 in Kyoto. Ghosts are also depicted in illustrated books *sashi-e 挿絵. Single-sheet ghost prints were designed by Suzuki Harunobu 鈴木春信 (1724-70), Kitagawa Utamaro 喜多川歌麿 (1754-1806), Katsushika Hokusai 葛飾北斎 (1761-1849), Utagawa Kuniyoshi 歌川国芳 (1797-1861), Keisai Eisen 溪斎英泉 (1790-1848), Tsukioka Yoshitoshi 月岡芳年 (1839-92), and ghosts were depicted in actor prints by Utagawa Toyokuni 歌川豊国 (1769-1825), Utagawa Kunisada 歌川国貞 (1786-1864), and Toyohara Kunichika 豊原国周(1835-1900).
