A long, rectangular worship hall at a Shinto shrine with entrances on the front and rear sides parallel to the ridge. The worship hall *Haiden 拝殿 at Ujigami Jinja 宇治上神社, Kyoto, is one example. It has 6 x 3 bays with the two central bays used for entrances. The roof is gabled, but because each gable end has a 1-bay peripheral area *hisashi 廂 added, the roof at first glance appears to be hip-and-gable type *irimoya-zukuri 入母屋造. The roofing is cypress bark. A 1-bay step-canopy *kōhai 向拝 extends over the stairs leading up to the front entrance. A raised veranda surrounds the entire building.
