Also called okuri-ari 送蟻. A right angle joint *shiguchi 仕口 used to suspend a strut tsurizuka 吊束. It is made with a dovetail tenon *arihozo 蟻ほぞ and is cut across the grain of a timber. The member to which it is joined has a dovetail-shaped mortise arihozo-ana 蟻ほぞ穴 and a sliding space nige-ana 逃穴 carved out so that when the dovetail tenon is inserted, it can be shoved into the dovetail-shaped mortise. Coffer frames *gōbuchi 格縁 for ceilings, a lintel or top part of door, a window frame *kamoi 鴨居, or regular frames *kamachi 框 are secured or tightened by using this type of joint.
