Organic pigment. An insoluble paint material *ganryō 顔料 made from animal or plant material. Some organic pigments are made with naturally occurring materials and some are synthetically produced. An example is the yellow pigment *zumi 棠梨 made from the bark of the zumi, a deciduous tree of the rose family.
