1 Also written 図子, 途子. A crossroads or intersection of two roads. See *tsuji 辻.
2 In various towns in Fukui Prefecture and the Kinki 近畿 region, particularly in Nara, a narrow urban alley that could be throughface or a cul-de-sac. Equivalent to the kōji 小路 of Kyoto.
3 An alternative written form of *zushi 厨子. Also read tsushi. A loft or attic in the roof space of a traditional vernacular house *minka 民家. Found in tiled, shingled, and thatched houses, the floors often were made of bamboo takesunoko 竹簀子, sometimes overspread with clay or mud, or timber boarding itabari 板張, supported by joists *neda 根太. The space was used variously for storage, accommodating servants and for raising silk worms kaiko 蚕. Except when used for silk worms there were few windows. Regional variants include 'taushi,' 'zushi,' 'tsuji,' 'shizu,' and 'chishi.' Also called *tsushi nikai 厨子二階 when there is only one floor of loft space.

6 In the farmhouses nōka 農家 of Takaoka-gun 高岡郡, Kōchi Prefecture, a *kamado 竈 set in a corner of the *irori 囲炉裏, with its sides often sheathed in copper cladding.
