vault
- A ceiling or roof constructed of brick or stone built
on the principal of the round or pointed arch designed to
transmit outward and downward thrust along structural members
such as columns, piers and buttresses. Major vault types include
barrel or tunnel vaults, groin vaults and rib vaults.
vellum

Translucent or opaque sheets prepared from calf which has
been limed, depilated, scraped, and dried under tension to
produce a thin, strong material for writing, bookbinding,
or other uses. Of finer quality than "parchment"
vestry
-
Boards of appointed or elected laypeople who are in charge
of the temporal administration of parishes.
