Amiens Cathedral

Amiens Cathedral, Southern flank of the western frontispiece

We are looking down the street that formed the western edge of the canons' cloister: some 18th-century houses once occupied by canons still survive.
We can see the edge of the southern tower which, in plan, is formed around a rectangle. The tower is supported atop the deep buttresses that project to the left and the lateral buttresses that face us. A generously-sized staircase turret is sandwiched between the lateral buttresses: you can see the little slit-shaped windows that open into the circular staircase. An angel who has lodged in the left buttresses keeps an eye on the time.
