Here we begin to be aware of a spatial dimension of the cathedral that was, at first, hidden, namely the north transept arm. The intersection of the nave with the transept is marked by a more complex vault: this is a lierne vault and probably dates from after the completion of work on the roof in the first part of the 14th century. The last bay of the nave arcade is wider than the others but this is barely perceptible here on account of the foreshortening
