Amiens Cathedral (Passages)

Passage down the nave: 1

Here we begin our passage down the length of the nave. We see the north arcade with its pointed arches atop piliers cantonnés. Above the arcade the middle point of the elevation is marked by a foliate band. Above this the form of the triforium is barely legible since it is seen at a steep angle and the same is true of the tall clerestory windows. The height of the arcade up to the foliate band equals the height of the triforium and clerestory together. There is no discernible change in the forms of the nave as we advance eastward. The gaze of the visitor is drawn to the east where the enhanced brightness of the choir is already apparent....
