This arrangement of both sheathing and rafters as seen from beneath the eaves is called *komaiura 小舞裏 meaning the underside of the lath. Sometimes 1.5 cm square, straight-grain, cedar lath alternates with purple stemmed bamboo to create a decorative effect. Example: Hakusan Jinja Haiden 白山神社拝殿 (1278) in Gifu Prefecture.
