A form of construction characterized by the use of a strut *tsuka 束 standing upon the *geyabari 下屋梁 or upon a deep-section lintel, sashigamoi 差鴨居 (see *kamoi 鴨居) to support the end of the principal transverse beam *jōyabari 上屋梁 in thatched vernacular houses *minka 民家. The term was widely used in the Chiba area, but the phenomenon it describes was much more widespread.
