Also written 雨打造. A style of architecture that employs pent roof. A common 13th-19th century expression for *mokoshi 裳階, a pent roof attached under the eaves *noki 軒, marking the main stories of a pagoda. The space under the pent roof is called yuta-no-ma 雪打の間. One such example is found on Yakushiji Tōtō 薬師寺東塔 (early 8th century) in Nara. The pillars holding the outer edges of the pent roof are called yutabashira 雪打柱, and are erected at the outer boundary of the pent roof space. Many temple halls, for example *hondō 本堂, *butsuden 仏殿, or gates *sanmon 三門, also have a pent roof.
