Also sakabasu 逆蓮, kaikaren 開花蓮, *yuiwata 結綿. A shape that resembles an upside-down lotus blossom. It is used as a molded decoration on newel posts, kōran oyabashira 高欄親柱 of Zen style *zenshūyō 禅宗様 railings. Posts decorated in this way are known as gyakurenbashira 逆蓮柱. The decorated top of the post is called gyakurengashira 逆蓮頭, gyakurentō 逆蓮頭, or *yuiwatagashira 結綿頭.
