The act of sawing square or rectangular timbers on the diagonal to produce two trapezoidal shapes. The timbers themselves may also be called hikichigai. This method is used most commonly for *nageshi 長押 (non-penetrating tie beams), *kawaraza 瓦座 (tile seats), and for beams *yaguranuki 櫓貫 used for castle turrets, keeps, and scaffolding.
