Also written 斜郭. A diagonal section of wall forming part of a gateway barrier *umadashi 馬出 in a castle. This is a variation of the square gateway barrier *kaku-umadashi 角馬出, with a wall on one side of the gateway *koguchi 虎口, projecting diagonally, instead of at a right angle. The diagonal wall, usually on the left side when facing outward from the castle entrance、is called hizumiguruwa. The purpose of this projecting diagonal is to launch arrow or gun attacks into the side of approaching enemy lines. These side attacks are called *yokoya 横矢.
