Also read chien hikaku. Double eaves *futanoki 二軒, composed of base rafters *jidaruki 地垂木, and flying rafters *hien daruki 飛檐垂木. Jidaruki were round or oval in cross section and hien daruki were square. This style came from the Continent and can be widely seen in Korean temple buildings today. After the end of the 8th century, the use of circular base rafters in Japan gradually waned and both sets were either square or rectangular. 
Example : Yakushiji Tōtō 薬師寺東塔 (8th century), Tōdaiji Tegaimon 東大寺転害門 (8th century), both in Nara.
