Lit. kitchen alcove. Also teishudoko 亭主床. Sometimes called *gezadoko 下座床. An alcove, located behind or beside the host's mat *temaedatami 点前畳, in a tea ceremony room *chashitsu 茶室. Examples: Saihōji Shōnantei 西芳寺湘南亭 in Kyoto, built by Sen Shōan 千少庵 (1546-1614); and Jikōin Chashitsu 慈光院茶室 in Nara, favored by Katagiri Sekishū 片桐石州 (1605-73).
