Also called *karadomen 唐戸面. A chamfer in which the corners of a structural element are cut with sharp points and deep cuts. The name kichōmen is derived from the use of this chamfer on a Heian period curtained screen called kichō 几帳. The shape of chamfers varied to some extent from period to period. The chamfers are found on pillars, posts, on the coffers of ceilings and on the hinged doors *sangarado 桟唐戸, popular in the Momoyama period.
