A pictorial subject based on "Butterflies" Kochō, Chapter 24 of Genji monogatari 源氏物語 (The Tale of Genji). The chapter centers around an elaborate spring banquet at the Rokujō 六条 mansion (see *Otome 乙女), which is often illustrated, and also Genji's continued pursuit of *Tamakazura 玉鬘. Paintings based on this chapter are characterized by dragon and phoenix boats on a garden pond and little girls dancing, dressed as butterflies, holding cherry blossoms and yellow Japanese roses yamabuki 山吹.
