A board which is placed on the host's mat *temaedatami 点前畳, to display tea utensils at the time of a tea ceremony. It is about 42 cm square corresponding to the width of a portable shelf *daisu 台子, used for the same purpose. The board can be finished in black lacquer kakiawase-nuri 掻合せ塗, or it can be natural wood with its grain kiji 木地, showing through a clear lacquer coating. A small portable brazier may also be placed on the ō-ita. Larger braziers are placed on a smaller board, called *ko-ita 小板, which is about 30 square.
