Also kagi-datami 鍵畳. The straw mat *tatami 畳, into which the sunken firebox or hearth *ro 炉, is placed. In a 4 1/2 mat room *yojōhan 四畳半, the ro-datami is the 1/2-size mat in the room's center. In a large room *hiroma 広間, a 3 or 4 mat room for instance, the firebox is cut into one of the guests' mats. If the hearth is set into the host's mat *temae-datami 点前畳, it is referred to as *mukōgiri 向切. If set into in a corner it is called *sumiro 隅炉. The latter two mats are also called rodatami.
