Lit. "poem-slip" *tanzaku 短冊 format. A size of *ukiyo-e 浮世絵 print often used by Utagawa Hiroshige 歌川広重 (also known as Andō Hiroshige 安藤広重; 1797-1858) for his landscape or bird-and-flower prints. Four variations of tanzakuban exist.
Ōtanzakuban 大短冊判. Also read daitanzakuban. A vertically cut 1/3 sheet of an *ōbōsho 大奉書 sheet, approximately 39 x 17.5 cm. When used for *surimono 摺物, it was called shikishiban jōge nimaitsugi 色紙判上下二枚継 (two, vertically joined *shikishiban 色紙判), because its size is the same as two sheets of the poem card format. When used (though very rarely) in *beni-e 紅絵 in the 1750s, it was called ōhosoban 大細判.
Chūtanzakuban 中短冊判. A vertically cut quarter piece of ōbōsho paper, approximately 39 x 12 cm.
Kotanzakuban 小短冊判. Also called hosotanzakuban 細短冊判. A vertically cut piece of 1/8 of an ōbōsho sheet, approximately 39 x 6 cm.
Aitanzakuban 間短冊判. A vertically cut quarter piece of an *kobōsho 小奉書 sheet, approximately 33 x 11.5 cm.
