Also called toyo とよ. A generic term for a gutter. When used in traditional architecture, it was generally made of bamboo or carved out of timber and attached to eave ends *nokisaki 軒先 to catch the rain flowing down from the roof. The down-drain pipe was called tatedoi 竪樋. Depending upon their placement, they were called an inside gutter uchidoi 内樋, an outside gutter sotodoi 外樋, or an eave gutter *nokidoi 軒樋. A carved out gutter was called horidoi 彫樋. A curved gutter yobidoi 呼樋 was used to connect the eave gutter with the down spout.
