When flying rafters are added, a flying rafter support *kioi 木負, must be placed on the eave to accept the inner ends of the flying rafters *hien daruki 飛檐垂木. The flying rafter then will carry an eave support called *kayaoi 茅負. On top of this an exposed eave filler *uragō 裏甲, and tile seat *kawaraza 瓦座, are added to support the pendant tiles that border the edge of the eave. If roofed with thatch *kayabuki 茅葺, or finely layered shingles *kokerabuki 柿葺, facia boards *hanakakushi-ita 鼻隠板, are used to cover and protect the rafter ends.
