Also called tonemaru 利根丸, 刀根丸, onigiwa marugawara 鬼際丸瓦. This occurs when there is a drooping verge *minokō 箕甲 on a hip-and-gable roof *irimoya yane 入母屋屋根, or on a gable roof *kirizuma yane 切妻屋根. The upper part of the tonemarugawara fits under the flat tiles *noshigawara 熨斗瓦 to form the base for the tiles piled up on the ridge. The term is also applied to the entire row of semi-cylindrical tiles which reach from the ridge to the upper part of the corner ridge *sumi kudarimune 隅降棟, or to the corner of the eave-end on a gable roof which has eave-overhang tiles *kakegawara 掛瓦.
