Lit. "four mats and a half cut." A firebox or hearth used in a 4 1/2 mat or larger tea ceremony room *chashitsu 茶室. As a rule, the fire box is positioned within the 1/2 mat bordered by the host's mat, *temae-datami 点前畳, and surrounded by three guests' mats. This is also known as a *dero 出炉, a firebox not placed within the area of the host's mat. Yojōhangiri can be positioned in both a normal position *hongatte 本勝手, and in a reverse position *gyakugatte 逆勝手.
