Also mukōgiriro 向切炉. Mukōgiri refers to *hongatte 本勝手 and *gyakugatte 逆勝手, two of eight different placements, called *hachiro 八炉, for locating a firebox or hearth in a tea ceremony room. The firebox that is positioned at the right inner edge of the host's mat *temaedatami 点前畳, is the most usual position and is called hongatte or mukōgiri hongatte 向切本勝手. If the hearth is cut into the left inner edge of the host's mat it is the reverse of hongatte and is called gyakugatte or mukōgiri gyakugatte 向切逆勝手.
