A type of window containing a lattice of *mushiko gōshi 虫籠格子, set into the upper part the facade of a building, usually a town house *machiya 町家, to illuminate the upper-floor rooms or lofts *zushi 辻子 (also called tsushi). Size varied but examples in pre-19th century houses were often small. Shapes ranged from simple rectangles or circles to examples with elaborately moulded borders and decoratively curved and cusped corners reminiscent of the top half of *katōmado 火灯窓 or certain types of *kushigatamado 櫛形窓. Also referred to as mushiko 虫籠 in the vicinity of Kyoto.
