oshibuchi 押縁

Lit. "pushing frame." The horizontal bars to which the vertical slats *tateko 竪子 of a fence are tied. Split or whole bamboo are used most frequently, although other types of light wood may be employed. Oshibuchi are usually found on closed fences and are frequently used on both sides of the takeko. Oshibuchi may be called neko 寝子 or lying members. They are often confused with *dōbuchi 胴縁, the horizontal bars threaded between the tateko of open fences.
