A railing in the wayō style *wayō 和様. The horizontal members, the top rail *hokogi 架木 and the middle rail *hirageta 平桁, crisscross past the supporting struts *tsuka 束. The corner posts are usually capped with an onion-shaped decoration called *giboshi 擬宝珠, which distinguishes it from Zen style railings *zenshūyō kōran 禅宗様高欄.
