yugamibashira 歪柱

Also called *magaribashira 曲柱. Lit. "crooked or bent post." Posts that are used on the inner side, at the outer corner of a *tokonoma 床の間, and may also be called the middle post *daimebashira 台目柱, in a tea ceremony room *chashitsu 茶室. Yugamibashira was often employed in the Momoyama period, and at the time the middle post was only slightly curved. In tea literature, yugamibashira was considered a base word and seldom used. The yugamibashira became very popular during the Genroku 元禄 era (1688-1704) and was given a much more exaggerated curve.
